I went to the local shelter weekly looking for a stray I had seen in my neighborhood. I walked up and down the endless rows of cages of eyes looking up at me wondering if I were there for them. It is truly heartbreaking. I was just about to leave after not finding the one I was looking for when a guy brought in a mini Shitzhu in a shopping cart. She had been shaved down to skin except for her head. One of her eyes looked damaged and she was shaking uncontrollably. I tried greeting her but she was not having any part of me. I went back to work as I was on my lunch hour, but could not get that little girl out of my head. After talking about it at great length with my coworkers, I decided I had to rescue her. When I went to get her, she was backed up in the crate and did not want to come to me. I took her home to meet my Dachshund and cat, but she stayed clear of us for months. Her hair finally grew back and her eye looked better after some medicine. It has been nearly 5 years now and Daisy runs the house and keeps her two brothers and very big sister in line. She loves to be scratched under the neck and on her belly and she sleeps with me and one of her brothers every night. She greets me with so much excitement that her right paw goes up and down like she’s waving at me and prances in circles. I am so happy I went back for her.
