Help Cover Underinsured Medical Needs
Help underinsured Americans afford their prescription medication.
Imagine that you suffer from a chronic illness for which medication is available, and that you have a doctor's prescription for those necessary medications. Now imagine that your insurance does not cover the cost of those drugs, or does not cover the complete out-of-pocket cost. Sadly, this is the case for an ever-expanding pool of Americans.
When out-of-pocket medical costs prove unmanageable for underinsured Americans, The Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation can help. Traditional patient-assistance programs can only help the uninsured. In contrast, PAN seeks to help those patients whose insurance is inadequate to cover the costs of their treatment. Rather than consigning low-income and underinsured patients to the impossible choice between their health and their financial survival, PAN aims to bridge the gap in insurance coverage, helping patients obtain the medicine that their doctors have prescribed them.
You can help an underinsured American afford prescription medication. Your donation through this Gift That Gives More&trade provides:
- One Week of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Medication ($38.00). Macular degeneration is a group of diseases characterized by a breakdown of the macula, the center portion of the retina that makes central vision and visual acuity possible. AMD is a degenerative retinal disease causing progressive, irreversible loss of central vision. "Wet" AMD can progress rapidly, in a matter of weeks or even days. Recently, pharmaceutical products have been approved by the FDA for use for the treatment of wet AMD.
- One Week of Multiple Sclerosis Medication ($71.00). Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. It is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, meaning that the immune system incorrectly attacks the person's healthy tissue. Symptoms result when an inflammatory immune system attack affects myelin, the protective insulation surrounding nerve fibers of the central nervous system. Medications for MS are intended to reduce the frequency and severity of acute exacerbations and slow the accumulation and progression of disability over time.
- One Week of Rheumatoid Arthritis Medication ($71.00). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one of the most common autoimmune disorders, is an inflammatory disease that affects the joints, causing pain, swelling, and eventually loss of function. As the disease progresses, the bones inside the joints start eroding, which can cause damage to the bone, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. RA may also affect a patient's eyes, lungs, and heart. Biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs are increasingly being used to treat RA because of their superiority to standard therapies in delaying or preventing the deformity and disability associated with this condition.
- One Week of Crohn's Disease Medication ($71.00). Crohn's disease is a chronic disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Because there is no cure for Crohn's disease, the goal of medical treatment is to suppress the inflammatory response. This allows the intestinal tissue to heal and it also relieves the symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Once the symptoms are brought under control, medical therapy is used to decrease the frequency of disease flares.
Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation is an independent non-profit established in 2004 and dedicated to assisting patients who cannot afford the out-of-pocket costs associated with their treatment needs. With 20 disease-specific funds, PAN assists the underinsured in accessing health care treatments. Throughout all 50 states and three U.S. territories, PAN provides trained case managers with whom patients or advocates may speak about their care. Patient Access Network Foundation provides hope at times when people have nowhere else to turn.
