Engraved Gourd Birdhouses

Add some natural, breezy beauty to your yard or garden! Attractive, hand-etched gourds from Peru are just the right weight to sway in the breeze, discouraging the more predatory starlings and house sparrows with a tendency to take over other bird's nests. Birdhouses have your choice of Leaves or Dragonflies etched onto the surface.
Since gourds are natural products, exact appearance and sizes will vary; birdhouses average 7" T x 5" W (17.8 x 12.7 cm). Entry holes measure 1.5" dia. (3.8 cm). Birdhouses have side and bottom holes for ventilation and drainage. Handmade in and fair-trade imported from Peru.

September 29, 2014 - If no one comes to nest, it is still a beauty. I used to grow, paint,, dremel them and had 2 that I had kept in storage that were 2 and 3 feet tall. Of course, after paying the storage company for 8.5 years until I settled here, they had lost (aka auctioned) my items off. I always paid on or before the date, but they moved 2 times and didn't inform us. The leaf gourd is so beautiful, I am agin thinking of ordering more for gifts. Shhhhh...I know it's a housing unit, but I did stick a few of the black sunflower seeds in to see if maybe, just maybe (doubt it as they are quite shy and make their nests high in trees) the might be attracted and come to it. Otherwise, I highly recommend it for either decoration or even corking the hole and drilling or cutting a slit in the other side and using it as a bank.
May 6, 2014 - Ornamental, not functional. The ones I received are too small for even a junko or chickadee to fit in, well under 4" in diameter. Disappointed. Why be in such a rush to harvest the gourds before achieving a useful size?
May 1, 2014 - I love this. I have it hanging by my bird feeder. Doesn't have a nest in it yet. But love the way it looks. I'm glad I bought it.
December 31, 2013 - My Mom loved the Dragonfly bird house. Very pretty in real life.
November 26, 2013 - Very pretty. I got the leaves because when I ordered the dragonflies were out of stock and it came in the shape of the dragonfly pictured.
