Help Animal Victims of Natural Disasters
Roll over image to zoom in
Natural disasters strike without warning and without regard for species. News stories often cover the people displaced or injured by disaster, but seldom show the whole picture: disasters affect animals too.
Animals need rescuing when faced with storms, floods, fires, or earthquakes, just like people. They may need physical rescue from flood waters or debris. They may need immediate medical attention, hydration, or food. If someone is there, on the scene and ready to help, their chances of survival skyrocket.
You can help experts from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) be ready and able to help in the wake of a disaster. Every donation prepares IFAW to respond as quickly as possible when disaster strikes, funding emergency rescue teams, animal shelters, food, supplies, and medical care for animals in distress.
Survivors shouldn't have to wait while funds are being raised. Become a first-responder and help animals weather the crisis.
This Gift That Gives More™ funds emergency response for animal victims of natural disasters, through International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).
Report from the Field
From Shawna Moos at IFAW:
Since 2008, grants from GreaterGood.org have enabled IFAW to help animals around the world at times of disaster, including:
- Care of cats and dogs in the wake of hurricanes and floods in the United States from Hurricane Ike to present disasters
- Rescuing and caring for animals in Australia after the 2011 cyclone Yasi and the 2008 bushfires
- Assisting animal rescue and aid groups in potential nuclear radiation zones after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan
- Treating more than 50,000 animals after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti
IFAW works to improve the welfare of wild and domestic animals throughout the world by reducing commercial exploitation of animals, protecting wildlife habitats, and assisting animals in distress. IFAW seeks to motivate the public to prevent cruelty to animals and to promote animal welfare and conservation policies that advance the well-being of both animals and people.
