Artisan: Beads Crazy by Precila G.

Artisan Beads Crazy by Precila G.

As a child in the Philippines, Precila G. loved watching her clothing-designer mother create beautiful ensembles for her celebrity clientele. Later, when her parents opened a wholesale textile business, she discovered her own flair for mixing color with texture. She began designing and wearing her own jewelry, and was surprised and delighted when those around her began asking about her designs.

"My creations were for personal use in the beginning but I soon came to realize it could be something more, when people from work, at the mall, on the street were buying my creations on the spot."

For two decades she experimented with design, perfecting her craft. Finally, in 2001, she started Beads Crazy in her living room. Demand for her work grew rapidly and she soon moved to a studio in Agoura Hills, California. Beads Crazy jewelry is now sold in hundreds of boutiques, galleries, and museums around the world.

Precila finds inspiration everywhere. "How do I come up with new designs?" she muses. "Traveling, reading trade books and magazines for techniques, field trips to museums and botanical gardens, taking jewelry technique lessons, lots of experimenting with different finishes, designing from imagination and at times in collaboration with other artists." She finds inspiration in at least one other place as well. "I continuously appreciate the support of family and friends," she says. With the addition of her work in our stores, Precila's success shows no signs of slowing down.
