Simple Spinner Drum
Roll over image to zoom in
Also called a damasas or monkey drum, our simple spinner drum is made with goat hide stretched over a frame with two beads that strike the drum when spun.
Activate the flying beads by twirling the stick with one hand or in-between your palms. This handmade instrument is a traditional noisemaker from Peru, but very similar versions are found in Africa and other parts of the world. Its universal appeal may be tracked to the simple way it is played. The beads on the strings act as the drumsticks and generate a perfect drum roll with a constant spin of the drum.
