Throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand, many animals are treated in horrific ways. In fact, some of these cruel practices are socially sanctioned. Based in Thailand, Soi Dog Foundation has embarked on a teacher-training program directed at Thailand's younger citizens - the children.

Throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand, many animals are treated in horrific ways. In fact, some of these cruel practices are socially sanctioned. Based in Thailand, Soi Dog Foundation has embarked on a teacher-training program directed at Thailand's younger citizens - the children.

Soi Dog Foundation's Humane Education Program cultivates empathy and kindness by teaching children to understand the feelings of others. The program instills a sense of responsibility to make compassionate choices, empowers kids to improve their communities, and produces caring members of society. The Soi Dog Foundation's humane education is designed to inspire young people to become compassionate, caring adults that will protect and honor Thailand's animal population for generations to come. In addition to training teachers, Soi Dog Foundation distributes age-appropriate educational reading materials throughout Thailand's schools.

You can help. Just $10 educates one child in Thailand about humane practices of animal welfare.

Update from the Field

June 2016

Thanks to your help, Soi Dog Foundation has been able to employ an Humane Education Officer who has been working to develop a Humane Education program for local schools, to be launched in Phuket, Thailand.

The Humane Education program has been developed, including a resource pack, lesson plans and a "Teaching for the Positive Future" workshop.

The lesson plans, designed for teachers, covers integrating humane education and animal rights into lesson plans and promoting learning through a dedicated Soi Dog education website. The "Teaching for the Positive Future" workshop for teachers will have presentations on animal welfare, dog behavior and working with the young generation for change.

Soi Dog Foundation is currently in discussions with the local school authorities to determine a timeline for the introduction of this program.

Stop Cruelty Before It Starts

March 2015

In Thailand, Soi Dog casts their net to a wide range of issues related to animal welfare. Due to the unfortunate practice of people killing street dogs for meat, one of their primary missions is to fight the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand. For Chang, he had a first-hand glimpse of this stark reality.

On the streets of Thailand, Chang was attacked by a Cambodian man with the intent of selling his meat. Chang fought for his life and managed to escape, and miraculously survived after a young child found him fighting for his life. Thanks to her bravery in reporting the attack, Chang was rescued and has made a miraculous recovery.

It is only through education that we can nurture compassion for animals in the child of Thailand. If more children are educated on the importance of animal welfare, more dogs like Chang can be saved every day.

The mission of Soi Dog Foundation is to improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.
