Help end the suffering of Sochi's stray dogs!
A lack of spay/neuter programs and a cultural misunderstanding about the procedure combined with Sochi's temperate climate and practically no animal shelters has led to an overpopulation of stray dogs. As the host of the 2014 Olympic Games and subsequent large cultural and sporting events, the city has continuously hired exterminators to target these dogs with poison and/or guns. This inhumane choice does not solve the city's problem. Stray dogs, community dogs, and even pets continue to reproduce! Friends of Sochi Dogs organization often finds boxes of puppies left out by garbage disposals and rescues dogs abandoned on the street. They run a shelter that houses 50-60 homeless dogs at any given time and to date have found homes for more than 200 dogs and has taken more than 250 dogs off the street.
Sochi Dogs hopes to educate the community about the importance of spaying/neutering. The organizations reach out to animal activists through social media to offer free spay/neuter procedures for any animals in their care. The ultimate goal is to end the suffering and killing of stray and abandoned dogs. Every dog deserves a home and Friends of Sochi Dogs will work tireless to help as many as we possibly can but for that we need your help.
You can help. Just $8 helps feed a stray puppy for a week.
Sasha, a Friends of Sochi Dogs volunteer, carrying a new shelter arrival named Abby. Abby gave birth to a litter of puppies on the beach in Sochi. Friends of Sochi Dogs stepped in to give Abby and her puppies safe and loving homes. The entire family was spayed, dewormed and vaccinated before being adopted into their forever homes. Abby found a home in Toronto and her puppies are living in Alaska and New Jersey!
Friends of Sochi Dogs is a trailblazing 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games committed to improving the welfare of stray dogs through rescue, adoption, education, and spay/neuter programs.
