Tell the FDA to block all imports of dog treats from China until they can figure out why pets are dying - and stop it.

The unexpected death a pet is heartbreaking - especially when it was also preventable. This situation is real for families whose pets consumed certain jerky treats made in China; thousands have fallen ill or died after eating them. The FDA reports: "As of December 31, 2015, FDA has received approximately 5,200 complaints of illnesses associated with consumption of chicken, duck, or sweet potato jerky treats, many of which involve products imported from China, which produces much of the jerky pet treats on the market. The reports involve more than 6,200 dogs, 26 cats, three people, and include more than 1,140 canine deaths."1

In response to the problem, the FDA did send investigators to the plants in China where the treats are manufactured. Due to China's stringent laws and other barriers, they were not able to identify the problem, and therefore failed to develop standards to prevent future incidents. Instead, they posted a warning for pet owners1: "Jerky pet treats are not required as part of a complete and balanced diet for your pet. If you choose to feed jerky pet treats, watch your pet closely."

China's obfuscation and the unwillingness of pet food and treat manufacturers to recall dangerous products have left us no choice but to ban all imports of dog treats from China. Call on the FDA to ban all dog treat imports from China until the proper steps are taken to address this problem. Save lives today.

The Petition:

To the FDA Commissioner:

Beloved pets are still dying, and there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. Certain jerky treats from China are causing dogs to become extremely ill and, in some cases, die.

As you know the FDA launched an investigation to find out the ultimate catalyst for these deaths, but Chinese laws and the companies' unwillingness to voluntarily recall the products are seriously obfuscating the investigation.

They have left us no choice. We implore you to ban all imports of dog treats from China until the culprit behind the situation is identified and stopped. We love our pets, and their lives depend on your action today. Please act swiftly on this matter. Thank you.
